Hi there,

This is my first post in the forum and also first time using Publisher 2 for something serious: program booklet for our orchestra's concert performance next week...

I downloaded a template file from the website of where we want to print our booklets and started working in it. I added a bunch of Text Frames and added text and some images. Now I wanted to change the Text Wrap Settings, and every time I try to set the Text Wrap of a Frame to Square, within a fraction of a second Publisher crashes.

I'm not sure what info I can give for reproducing the issue, but I was able to reproduce it both on my 2017 13" MacBook Pro (i7, 16GB RAM) and on my 2018 Mac Mini (i7, 64GB RAM) Both running macOS Ventura 13.4 and Publisher V2.1.0. If I do the same thing on a new empty file, there is no problem, but I believe I should be working in the template files, since I'm not sure what the print service has exactly pre-configured for the expected print results.

Thanks,
Jorik

Hi @Jorik Caljouw, and welcome to the forums,

Are you able to upload your Publisher document so we can see what may be causing the problem and your document to crash?

Hi @Jorik Caljouw,

The issue appears to be caused by the fact that the Page Number and additional text items that appear on the Master page are pinned to the actual Page Number placeholder. If you unpin all the text (Curves) the problem seems to go away but as soon as it's re-pinned the crash happens again...

Wow, thanks @Hangman for the quick help! I had no idea it would be related to settings in the Master Page. I'm gonna investigate some more details about this pinning.  I am now able to continue working with my document, but don't fully understand the pinning and what components are in the Master Page right now and why I was only seeing the page number and not the other shapes from the Master Page on the actual pages.

Since it's a crash (and probably shouldn't happen no matter the pinning settings), do you know if I need to make Serif aware or are they monitoring this forum for bugs to improve the software?

Thanks again!

Someone from the moderation team will move this thread to the Affinity 2 Bugs forum and the thread will then be assigned a ticket and should be logged as a bug accordingly.

The pinned elements on the Master page aren't required so unpinning them shouldn't have any impact on your document as they are just there for guidance.

Hi @Callum,

I'm equally baffled, how do you fully detach layers on a Master Page so those elements:

  • No longer have the vertical green line to the left of the thumbnail?
  • Don't appear when the Master page is applied to a Publication page?

Hi @Jorik Caljouw,

That's helpful to know...

I'm now wondering whether this is somehow related because to date I've not been able to figure out how the text (Curves) elements that appear on the Master page are hidden when the Master page is applied to the Publication pages...

So, it turns out that the addition of a Frame Text box on the Publication page which sits over the one on the Master page, in combination with the pinned objects on the Master page, causes Publisher to crash as soon you apply the Square text wrap option...
