I have a Publisher file that I have worked for several hours. Now it says "corrupted file" (nothing special done).

Could someone help me please to recover it?

Thanks

Hi @Gianni Becattini,

  1. Which version of Publisher are you using 1.10.6, 2.0.4 or 2.1.0?
  2. Is the Publisher file located on and saved to your internal hard drive, an external drive, a cloud drive or a NAS?
  3. Are you on Mac or Windows?
  4. Which version of the OS are you running?
  5. Does your Publisher file have embedded or linked graphics?

If you are seeing a "corrupted file" message it suggests it may not be possible to recover so unfortunately you would need to rely on a backup however, if you are able to upload your Publisher file we can take a look and see if we can identify the cause, it would be helpful to have any linked graphics as well...

If you'd prefer not to post to the forum you can request a private Dropbox link by replying to this post so one of the moderation team can take a look at your file and report back.

Thanks, you are very helpful.

  1. Which version of Publisher are you using 1.10.6, 2.0.4 or 2.1.0? 2.1.0
  2. Is the Publisher file located on and saved to your internal hard drive, an external drive, a cloud drive or a NAS? INTERNAL
  3. Are you on Mac or Windows? Mac
  4. Which version of the OS are you running? Ventura 13.4
  5. Does your Publisher file have embedded or linked graphics? In theory all linked, but sometimes it changes by itself (not with the last version until now).

The document is of a free book, so no problem in uploading if I have a hope.

Thanks again

Hi @Gianni Becattini,

Thanks for the update, I’m glad you’ve been able to sort everything despite having had to rebuild your file…

Please stop, don't waste your time. In the meanwhile I rebuilt the lost file.

Thanks anyway

Hi Gianni,

I'm sorry to hear you have had to rebuild your file from scratch, for future reference if you find this happens again you can try starting a new document in Publisher and then go to Document > Add pages from File and select your corrupt document. This will import the pages from your corrupt document into the new document. Please note this wont work for all files however it did seem to work for yours this time.

Thanks
