Margin / text boxes out of alignment

Recommended Posts

I wanted to move my margins out - getting text of a novel to sit further out from the gutter.

But, when I moved them in the document setup, then moved out the text boxes in the master page to sit in line - the rest of the book has not followed suit. I have different blue lined boxes with text in one place, and margin boxes elsewhere.

The correct master page is applied.

How do I fix this? And what is causing it? It seems like it should work.

Just in case: Objects that were not placed on master pages but on document pages only don't react on changes done to master page objects even with identical object parameters. Also, if master page objects got modified in size or position on a document page ("edit detached") then they don't react any more on changes done to their parent master page object size and position.

For single page documents a workaround can use the "Spread Setup…" to modify the page dimension twice, each with its according Anchor setting. Unfortunately or facing page spreads this doesn't work in the lack of an option to modify left and right pages differently.

A caveat. You may need to reapply the Master Pages to the Actual Pages to see any changes take effect.

Margins are merely suggestions, they do not control anything's placement.

If you have Text Frames on the Master Pages then moving them will move the text on the Actual Pages, if you move the Margins, nothing ,other than the Margins, will move.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
