Hi,

I've tried a few machines here (Intel based and running Ventura) and it's saving fine. Are you able to attach the crash report?

Thanks

@Jon P

Try creating a new artboard and then save the document, it crashes all the time. Not excactly craches though, it hangs infinatly with that ball spinning, then I have to force quit the app.

This happens now with another document.

I just tried with the AD 2.1 that was just released and same thing.

Can you tell me how to provide a crash report please, I usually have that window saying that I forced quit but in that case I don't have it and there is nothing in the console app either.

This thread should advise you how to send over the crash file, which you can attach here.

If you create a new document do you have any issues saving that? Or is it only certain documents you are loading?

Thanks

It happend on certain documents. It happens today with a document I created today. EVERYTIME I save it the app crashes. So I force quiting and reopening the document at least 50 times a day.

I've just loaded that and re saved it, i'm curious if the saved file is still causing you issues if you load and save this file?

I can get your crash dump looked into, but nothing is jumping out as obvious to me. To clarify, it doesn't matter where you are saving? You are saving onto a local drive (Desktop, Documents, etc?) and it's the same each time?

@Jon P I downloaded your document and opened it directly from the Download folder and I was able to edit it and save it as normal.

So I tried moving my original document to the Desktop folder and I was able to edit it and save it as normal.

The original document was placed to a successions of folder inside the Documents folder. The only thing I can think of is that I've might have created the parent folder of the original file using the terminal (mkdir command). I'll investigate that direction and let you know.

I still have this issue.

Some documents crashes all the time when saving them.

It's happening now, a document I already worked on without any troubles, now, everytime I try to save it Affinity Designer crashes.

Hi @jubarbie,

Are you opening and working with these files from your desktop folder? As that helped last time

If you want to send me over one of the files that's crashing on save I can try reproduce it

No I'm not opening it form the Desktop folder. The file was on a sub sub sub... folder from the Documents folder.

I just moved it to another folder and it seems to solve the issue. But this is not an acceptable solution, I should be able to work on the forlder I want, I'm using it for work and I have to keep my files organised. This doesn't happend with other documents on the same folder so it seems to be specific to Affinity Designer, there is something that makes it crash.

Could you let me know the full path of the folder that it's in when it hangs saving, maybe if I reproduce the folder structure I'll be able to see the hang when saving. I assume if you Save As to a new location it's also fine?

I'm aware it's not an ideal solution, but until we can reproduce the hang you get whilst saving it will be hard to fix or pin point the cause, so will require some troubleshooting. For now moving the file seems to atleast work around the issue.

Hi @jubarbie,

If you see this again, can you open the console and filter any errors by Affinity and let know if there's any errors that appear there?

This guide should cover it, it shows all errors that may happen, and am curious if when it hangs there are errors relating to affinity in that log, it may help us troubleshoot why you are seeing the hang
