Adrian Collett Posted April 19, 2023 Posted April 19, 2023 How do I download an extra font? I have been asked to use Open Sans for a particular leaflets, which I don't have. Easily found online, but how do I download it into Affinity Publisher 2? Thanks. Quote
Old Bruce Posted April 19, 2023 Posted April 19, 2023 We just install the font onto the Computer and all three Affinity applications can then make use of the fonts on the Computer. On Mac OS I just use the included Font Book Application to install fonts. Windows must have some similar method of installing fonts. Quote Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
Adrian Collett Posted April 19, 2023 Author Posted April 19, 2023 Thank you Old Bruce. Sadly, Windows keeps saying that it does not recognise Open Sans as a Font and won't let me put the download into the Fonts folder. I'm probably doing something wrong, but just can't get it to work. Quote

Well if you downloaded the font into a download folder and unzipped it. you should be OK to right click on the filename of the otf or ttf file to install it on windows with the context menu option. I just tried it and windows installed the files correctly. PaulEC 1 Quote
PaulEC Posted April 19, 2023 Posted April 19, 2023 Be aware that there is a variable version of Open Sans. Affinity can't use variable fonts, so make sure you are installing the static versions. You could also try using a font manager, rather than installing the font(s) directly into Windows. (Personally I use the free version of FontBase.) Adrian Collett Posted April 19, 2023 Author Posted April 19, 2023 Thank you Archangel and PaulEC. I have now sorted it. It appears that my Windows 11 laptop did not like the Google path for downloading this font (maybe that was a variable font) but was happy when I did it through Microsoft. Anyway, thanks again for all the advice. Much appreciated. Archangel 1 Quote
