Buzz1947 Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 This seems so basic, but I don't know what I'm missing. I can't figure out how to select a picture frame with the move tool, instead the program defaults to selecting the placed content inside of the picture frame. I need to use the layer panel to select the picture frame first, then I can use the move tool to move the frame around my document. Is this a change in version 2? Or is it a preference setting? I miss the old way of single click to select frame, double-click to select content. Also, the same sort of thing happens with groups. I can't select a whole group with the move tool, instead the program defaults to selecting the first object in a group and again, I need to use the layers panel to select the whole group. Thanks for the help, don't know if its me or a glitch (I never had these issues with Publisher v.1) RandallCC 1 Quote
lepr Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 The Move Tool of Affinity 2 has a terribly named new option in the context toolbar: 'Allow selection to consider items inside a group'. It is responsible for the automatic drilling down through parent objects (not just groups) that is annoying you. It is enabled by default when the apps are first run, if I remember correctly. There are changes to this functionality coming in 2.1, by the way. You'll get version 1 behaviour by disabling the option - see highlighted button below: RandallCC 1 Quote
Old Bruce Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 I should point out that here on Mac OS 11.7 using the Light interface I cannot tell if that is to be highlighted on/off. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
Buzz1947 Posted April 13, 2023 Author Posted April 13, 2023 Thank-you so much! I never would have found that. Just out of curiosity, what is the new 'Allow selection to consider items inside a group' option used for? Is it for "locking down" layouts so you don't accidentally move picture frames while adjusting placed images? I just can't picture what I would do with it. Quote
Old Bruce Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 I think some folks wanted this behaviour. The new betas have a different method of enabling it Default Auto, Groups or objects. And you can turn it off completely, which means you need to use the Layers panel to do the selecting.
