Magenta cast in highlights on import.

Recommended Posts

Hi. Been using affinity photo for 3 years and never had this issue. Basically all highlights are getting washed out to magenta and I have no idea why. They don't show that way in camera or in Faststone. This happens on both my office PC and my laptop.

-camera: r6mk2 (.cr3)
-windows 11
-affinity photo 2.0.4
-sRGB color space in camera and in affinity photo (default setting, unchanged).

This basically makes affinity unusable. no amount of curves adjustments or white balance stacks can adjust it or recover details.

Interestingly, there's another post with the same problem from 2019 and on apple IOS so this seems to be an issue from affinity photo 1 carried over to 2 and exists between both operating systems. This also happens in affinity designer.

naturally, no fix was ever listed but i believe the issue is the same.

I don't see the Mark II version of the Canon EOS R6 listed in the list of supported cameras. So, presuming that the Mark II is a different version from the R6 that is listed, that might explain your problem.

Hi @Scott MacAdam,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums :)

Although this specific camera model is not currently officially supported within Affinity, I believe you are experiencing a known issue with certain tones within RAW files which is logged as a bug with our development team.

I will be sure to 'bump' this report with your thread now to bring this to our developers attention once again.

I hope this helps.

Hi Dan, thanks for the quick response. seeing as how this bug has been present since at least 2019, is there any chance there is a work-around or a fix that eventually happens (specific camera body support updates)? I really need to get started editing and, as you can see in the images, the data seems so misrepresented it seems blown out and maybe unrecoverable through corrective methods.

I've gotten it reduced a fair bit by stacking 3 white balance layers but that still leaves a splotchy area and, of course, effects the color of the rest of the photo.

Is there a best practice approach here you might suggest? Thanks

You mentioned you tried converting to DNG. I'm not sure how you did that, but perhaps try converting to TIFF instead?

Thanks. I guess I'll give that a go. I'm using adobe DNG converter, in case that is ever relevant. Just figured i'd mention it. it's free. I guess I'll need another batch converter to get to .tiff but i'll figure something out.
