iaffinities Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 (edited) Hi, i'm getting started with designer and am unable to figure out how to fill a vector object (saved as .svg) with an image. Tried out several tutorials, basically having the image dragged upon the vector object in the layers panel, but that simply doesn't work. Can it be due to the fact i had applied a bezel effect on the vector shape ? Ps also tried to convert the same object to a PNG image and still doesn't work that way... Chul Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 Hi @iaffinities & welcome! Is this what you're trying to do? Make sure the vector object did not get rasterized. Can you paste a screen shot or something? Quote
h_d Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 Make sure the ellipse has an empty fill - it doesn't matter if it has a bevel effect or not. Place the image, then drag the image thumbnail over the ellipse layer (the full layer, not the thumbnail): Screen Recording 2023-03-11 at 18.44.20.mov This will clip the image to the ellipse. It's worth tracking down some of the many YouTube videos about clipping and masking in Affinity apps to get a sense of exactly how the different options work. Doesn't play any role here for clipping, thus doesn't need to have an empty fll at all! iconoclast Posted March 11, 2023 Posted March 11, 2023 The important point in this case might be that the shape is an imported SVG, not a shape from the Affinity repertoire or a curve object. Double click on the shape. You will get a new preview of the shape. Load the image, you want to nest into the shape, into the document and place it on top of the shape. Drag the layer that contains the image onto the right side of the layer that contains the shape to nest it in the shape. Close the new preview. Now the image should be nested in the SVG object. Quote
