I'm getting the message "Sorry, there was a problem launching the application. Cannot communicate with other Affinity apps...." when launching V2. Why?

If you're getting the below message when launching an Affinity V2 app, please make sure that your Firewall isn't blocking local traffic. Please refer to your Firewall's documentation.

In rare cases this message can appear if you have another in Affinity V2 app open that's in a Not-Responding state, such as processing a large document. You will have to wait for the other app to finish what it's doing before you can open another V2 app. If you suspect the app has hung, you will need to force quit the app before another Affinity V2 app can start.

If you are a user on Windows experiencing this issue with the Affinity apps, it may be caused due to the Affinity application data folder being 'hidden' on your system.

The specific folders location will differ depending on the installation method you've chosen on Windows, as outlined below.

To locate this folder, please open Windows Run (Windows Key + R) then paste the following string and press OK:

For MSIX installs:

%USERPROFILE%

For EXE installs:

%appdata%

In the Explorer dialog that opens, select the '.affinity' (MSIX) or 'Affinity' (EXE) folder.
If you're unable to see the folder, you may need to adjust your Windows Explorer settings to view hidden files/folders.

Once visible, right-click this folder and select Properties. In this dialog, untick the Hidden option under the General tab and then click OK.

You may see a Confirm Attribute Changes dialog appear, please ensure that Apply changes to this folder , subfolders and files is enabled here, then click OK again.

This folder should now appear as unhidden and launching the Affinity app will now procced correctly.

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!
