Good morning I am working on Publisher 2.1.0 Beta I was wondering at the start of a new document panel. {see Attached} you could ad in Primary text frame or something similar, to the start of something like a either a 1 or 10 page leaflets, you can click on first page and flow in your text

Thank you

For those unfamiliar with it, this feature of InDesign (formerly named Master Text Frame) simply creates a text frame(s) on the master page. It's just a shortcut to save you one step.

Adding this feature would also require adding Columns and Gutter fields to the New Document dialog because you need to be able to specify those for the master frames.

Also, how big should that text frame be? Does the application simply assume it fills the page to the margins?

I would simply use a Template, rather than a Preset.

InDesign, Quark, and other apps with this feature size the frame to the margins. Quark calls it Automatic Text Box. Also these apps typically use the column and gutter fields not only for this automatic text frame but for column guides.

When I first started using Publisher I was surprised it doesn't have this feature because it encourages new users to use master pages and avoids mistakes as frames on facing pages are linked by default. With a facing pages document it saves at least five units of work - going to the master, drawing 2 frames, linking them together, and returning to page 1. If you use multiple columns and want column guides it saves even more steps. This feature is usually optional but the default since it's so helpful.

So was I, and I was happy about it! ;)

In other words: Thanks, but no, thanks. Especially if it would be the default.

MacBookAir 15": MacOS Ventura > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // MacBookPro 15" mid-2012: MacOS El Capitan > Affinity v1 / MacOS Catalina > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // iPad 8th: iPadOS 16 > Affinity v2

But like any other New Document fields, it could be sticky so that if you turned it off it could stay off.

It is a very useful feature for long document creators. For short document creators, perhaps less so.
