Grouping objects not working

Good evening,

I am hoping that someone can help with a problem I'm having with AD.

When I group images on the canvas usually I am able to move them around as a group.   Now suddenly I can only move a group once and the second time I try the images are ungrouped.   The only option I have is to select the group in the layers panel each time I want to move something and this is really a pain to do.   On the canvas I can try to regroup the images until I'm blue in the face but nothing happens.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling AD in case I had inadvertently changed an option but it made made no difference.

First of all please make sure that you have selected the move tool and and not the node tool.

Secondly, do not double click when you want to drag the group. Just click on the group only once and then drag.

Thanks Seneca for your reply but I definitely have not selected the node tool and nor have I double clicked on an image I've wanted to move.  Basically I've just been working the same way I have been doing for the past eight years or so.  This problem only started today and it has confused me totally

What is even more strange is if I select the 'edit in Affinity Photo' option all the images that are ungrouped in AD are grouped as they should be AP.

Problem sorted.  Silly me, I somehow managed to activate a new option on the move tool context toolbar which allows selection to consider items inside a group.

I've recently started having the same issue. Where did you find that Move Tool option please? The only one I can find doesn't make any difference.

With the Move Tool selected & no layer selected, what does the Context Toolbar show if "Auto-select" is enabled, & what does it show after that (Default, Objects, or Groups)? See the Settings section of https://affinity.help/designer2/en-US.lproj/pages/Tools/tools_move.html for more about this.
