We would need another screenshot to begin diagnosing that one.

At this time I have no idea why New isn't working for you. Sorry.

Pep75: If you hold the CTRL key down when you launch the application you will see an option in the dialog for “Reset Document Presets”.

By checking that option you should get the default Presets back but any personal Presets you had would be lost across all of your Affinity applications on that machine.

It might be better to wait to do that later - if you can wait - as this problem might just be a symptom of a larger problem that needs further looking into.
If you can wait then someone will hopefully be along to help you look into it more (it’s not something I can diagnose).

Having the same problem here in version 2.5.5

Windows 11

Ended up having to uninstall the entire Affinity Suite and reinstall it. Settings... Gone! SUCH A PAIN!

At least I can now open a new document.

I was searching for hours online, no real answer other than create your own preset, which isn't a real solution.

I believe the bug was that I had the latest Designer installed, but not the latest Photo or Publisher. That's my guess, because I uninstalled ALL the apps, then downloaded all of them again to make sure I had the mostest most currentest versions. Reinstalled, and now I can open a new doc with/without presets.

Uninstalling the applications, at least if you use the standard Windows Uninstall process rather than some 3rd-party uninstaller, does not remove the Settings. (Of course, that can be both good and bad, but on the whole I appreciate it.)

And, by the way, there can be several different issues that a user might consider "the same problem" that are actually different. But we would have needed screenshots and more information to help you resolve it.

So if it happens again, you might try here with full details, in a new topic that you create, before taking actions like uninstall/reinstall. That might lead to enough information to either give you a simpler solution, or to help Serif figure out what caused the issue in the first place and fix it.
