Images created in the past with V1 pop up with the V1 software but do not if they are not accessed directly using the V2 screen (''Open [XXX]'').

I'm not sure what you mean by that. What happens if you open them with V2?

In any case, you'll need V1 if you ever intend to share files with another V1 user. Or if you ever want to look at how V1 worked to confirm whether something in V2 is working as you think it should.

On my Mac (OS 11.7) I have both applications but I have set the OS System to open .afdesign, .afphoto, and .afpub files to open with the newer version 2 applications. In the Finder click on an affinity file and choose File > Get Info ( keyboard shortcut Command + I). Now look for the Open With: and choose the appropriate application (let us say this is an .afdesign file so choose Designer 2) from the list and finally click on the Change All button. This will change all the .afdesign files to open with Designer 2 regardless of which application created it.

If you are on Windows there may be a method to this as well. Keeping the version 1 around may come in handy.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
