pomme27
In the attached example, I created a document that is 2048 x 1536 pixels in size (iPad Retina size). Using Draw Persona, I inserted a rectangle that also is 2048 x 1536 pixels in size. Then I used the Pen Tool to add a horizontal line that is exactly 2048 pixels long. When I group the rectangle and the line, and then export the group using Export Persona, the resulting PNG file is 2056 x 1536 in size. Somehow, 8 additional pixels are being added to the horizontal dimension. I know that I can shorten the line length to 2042 pixels, in which case the resulting PNG file is produced at the correct size of 2048 x 1536. But then the line does not quite reach the edge of the canvas, and there is color leak from the image behind the line (in this example, the rectangle). A difference of 8 pixels might not sound like much, but it is visible on an iPad screen. Does anyone know how to draw a horizontal line that reaches exactly to the edge of the canvas, and that then can be exported using Export Persona without additional pixels being added? Staff Pauls Posted February 10, 2016 Staff Share Posted February 10, 2016 In your file choose the middle line cap option (Butt Cap) from the stroke panel. Then the line will be the exact length you require.
pomme27
Could you take a look at my example and tell me what I might be doing wrong? I've tried using Butt Cap on the line, but it is still exporting with 8 extra pixels ...
R C-R
In your temp file, if I change the line end to butt cap, it moves slightly to the right. Move it back 8 pixels to the left & everything should work as expected. EDIT: Sorry, I described that very poorly. The line is actually a few pixels offset to the right to begin with, but you can't see that very well because the square caps obscure it. After changing it to have butt caps, it is easier to see that if you zoom in enough on the left side of the rectangle. Move it to the left until the Transform panel shows its x position as 0 px & everything should be as you want it. pomme27
First, thank you for helping me with this. I'm afraid, though, that I'm still not getting it. I've updated my example (attached via Dropbox link below) to ensure that the horizontal line is exactly 2048 pixels in length, and both ends of the line terminate with butt caps. I can visually see that both ends of the line are exactly flush with the edges of the canvas. But when I export the grouped item with Export Persona, I still get a file with 8 extra pixels (2056 pixels). Is there another setting somewhere that controls this? https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/53682537/Test.afdesign
R C-R
OK, I see what is happening but I don't know why. When you switch to the Export Persona the document is "auto sized" to 2056x1536. You can either use the Slice tool to resize it before export, or more simply, export from the Draw Persona, which will default to 2048x1536. pomme27
Yes, it is auto-sizing to 2056 pixels for some reason. I wonder if this a bug. Maybe I'll repost under the Bugs section and see if someone from Affinity responds. Thanks again for your help!
pomme27
Hi R C-R. I thought I'd let you know that Affinity agrees the above issue is a bug. They've put in on the fix list for a future update ...
