Unable to load files + frequent crashes.

Hello,

None of my files will not load, they get stuck on the "load document" page. I have also dealt with frequent crashes since upgrading to V2. I've tried restarting my Mac, clearing Affinity app history, and some other suggestions from the forums but nothing works. Any help it greatly appreciated. Attached is one of the files that suffers from these issues. Let me know if I can provide any additional information.

I cannot open on my iPad either, the file appears corrupt, was it saved to an external drive?

It opens fine on my M1 Mac Mini however so it is possibly a memory size limitation, what are the specs of your computer?

No it wasn't. But none of my other affinity files will load, which makes me think it's something with the software.

Ah, ok good to know. Memory shouldn't be an issue:

-32GB M1 Macbook Pro using Monterey 12.5.1

I didn't have any crashing or loading issues with Affinity V1. Maybe it's some incompatibility with Mac and the V2 version?

I am just going to try saving it without history to reduce the file size to see if it opens on my iPad now. For so little contents it seems a very large file. How large are the embedded bitmaps/files, are they bigger than you need?

EDIT: Shrunk to 80MB after saving without history but will not open on my M1 iPad Pro. That is a huge file for vector drawing. Can any of your layers be rasterised as they must be very complex perhaps ?

@gustopherNow there is a surprise, opens fine in Publisher on my iPad Pro but not Designer.

@gustopherSee if either of these files open. Don’t worry of you don’t have publisher the afpub file will open in Designer as well.

I ran preflight in Publisher on your document and there was a problem with the embedded PDF file formats, I selected fix to see what that would do.

Yea, thats a good point. Some of the scatterplots contain many points, perhaps I can rasterise these. Thanks for your help!

Hopefully the devs will come along and take a look at it. Very strange that it opens on my iPad in Publisher but not in Designer.

I am using macOS Ventura beta and iPadOS 16.3 beta.

@gustopher I've logged the file with the developers to take a look as it also didn't load in my Designer V2 on iPad but did in Publisher. I suspect it's due to the complex embedded PDF files but Designer should be. able to load the file. The file does open for me on desktop fine, are the files you're opening stored locally? it may be worth having resource monitor open to see what is being used when opening the files.
