After upgrading to 2.0.3. when I open certain files that contain a large number of images, Affinity Designer replaces many of those images with copies of existing images.

This could be a huge bug that will lead to serious data-loss, and I’ve never had anything happen like this before. As far as I’m aware the issue wasn’t there with 2.0.0. I’ve recorded a screencap of this bug to make it clearer.

I have a random file from a webshop with product images in it. When I open it with AD 1 it all works as it should. When I open it with AD 2, you'll see that images get replaced by copies of other images... It’s really weird, and when I save the file in AD 2 I can’t open it anymore in Ad 1, which means my images are gone forever.

Could you please look into this?
This seems like a really big deal to me. Thankfully I had a backup of the file where the issue is most serious (1,2 gig, hundreds of images and a loss of at least 50 images), but this doesn’t seem good...

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums :)

Thank you for your report of this bug. Please can you confirm that your document was created by copy and pasting the images via your clipboard ?  If so I think that you are seeing this problem which affects all our applications on all operating systems, when the files are the same dimensions and were added to the Affinity document in 2.0.0 via Paste.

I assume for now you have gone back to using AD 2.0.0 available from this page, as that would seem to be the only work around till this is fixed in the next update.

If your files were not pasted, then I will give you a dropbox link for you to provide us a 2.0.0 document that demonstrates the problem.

Thanks a lot Patrick, I can confirm that it's indeed a document with image copy and pasted in it. I hand't noticed the dimensions being te same, but that's probably correct also.

I haven't gone back to 2.0.0. yet. I didn't know I could still get 2.0.0 so I was using AD 1 in the meantime. I'm a bit hesitant about downgrading since I'd have to uninstall 2.0.3 and maybe other stuff will be deleted (settings) as well.

Do you have a possible ballpark timeframe for a public fix coming for this issue?
Maybe I'll wait it out and just keep using AD1 for this particular file until then.

Uninstalling 2.0.3 and installing 2.0.0 on macOS and Windows will not lose settings but that is up to you.

We do not have a fixed timeframe yet, but I think we are looking at fixing this regression in the next few weeks, rather than months.

Thanks again Patrick,
I'll hold out for a little while until the next update. It's mostly one important document that has the issue, so I'll work around it.
If you wan’t you can close and delete this topic, as to prevent an issue that’s now posted twice. (I don’t know if I can delete it myself)

@Patrick Connor please see also these threads which include reports of the same issue:

Sorry that you have experienced this problem with the 2.0.3 release of the Affinity Suite.

We have now released 2.0.4 on all platforms, and using that build this problem no longer occurs.

Unfortunately if 2.0.3 was used to SAVE your file, those replaced images will need the original images be reinserted/pasted into your files, sorry.

@Jana316

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums :)

Unfortunately files saved in 2.0.3 may have lost pasted images, sorry. However this bug was fixed, so any pasted images in 2.0.4 won't get lost.

Do you think you are still experiencing image loss using 2.0.4? (or are you perhaps opening files in 2.0.4 that were previously saved in 2.0.3 when the pasted images were lost?)
