bbc.
macOS 11.7.1, MacBook Pro 16,1 8-Core i9, AMD Radeon Pro 5500M When I paint with white on a small 400 dpi grey scale file (2.3 MB TIFF, 5 MB afphoto) the brush tool often hangs (spinning beach ball) for some seconds, then allows normal tool action again. The Activity Monitor does not indicate that Photo is hanging. If I turn off in Preferences > Performance > Hardware Acceleration: "Enable Metal compute acceleration" the hangs go away. Why is this happening?

Staff stokerg Posted January 24, 2023 Staff Share Posted January 24, 2023 Hi @bbc., If disabling Metal resolves the issue, then its likely either a bug in Metal on 11.7.1 or a combination of a bug in Metal and our code. Which year is your MacBook from and i'll see if we have the same one in the office i can do some testing on.
bbc.
Thank you for looking into this. A MacBook Pro 16,1 is the MacBook Pro 16" from 2019 (last before M1) stokerg
musiberti
I have the same Model (MBP 16, 2019) and issues with brushes too. If I try to change the options of any Brush Affinity (all 3 apps!) hangs and show the beachball for a minute. Changing the rotation of a brush is nearly impossible.
