Lobivia Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 CONTEXT: I improve B&W pictures of text scanned from old books. I need to use the "Level adjustment" to make the background cleaner (whiter). The pictures are in files that I process successively. BUG DESCRIPTION: frequently, when I open the level adjustement subwindow of the Adjustement panel, the "level curve/spectrum" top of the subwindow is not updated. I see the curve, together with the vertical lines of the level slide bar(s), associated with the image that has been previoulsy processed; the black and white % of the slide bars are 0 and 100% as expected, however. I can change the white or black level of the image (input or output) using the slide bar(s) and the image is affected as expected. BUT THE vertical line showing the selected % within the spectrum does not move accordingly: the spectrum remains frozen on the previous image processing. PROBLEM: I need to see the successive minima and maxima of the curve/spectrum, and the vertical lines in order to adjust the required white (or black) level, but this is impossible because the curve and vertical lines are not updated FURTHER OBSERVATIONS: At random (frequence not reproducible), the "level curve/spectrum" updates upon opening of the subwindow : this is observed by the transient appearance of the curve associated with the previous image, which is soon (less than 1 second) replaced by the new curve corresponding to the image under processing. The vertical line(s) are at the edges of the spectrum as expected. When the bug appears at one image, it is impossible to avoid it by "deleting" the level adjustement and re-initiating a new level adjustement. Quiting and restarting Photo solves the problem… until some subsequent image is processed, and for which the bug reappears. NB: I suddenly realize that I never tried to save and then close the image, and to reopen it within the same "Photo" sesion… SYSTEM: OSX 13.0.1, Processor Apple M1; Affinity Photo 2.0.0. Sorry for my "Frenglish"… Chris B 1 Quote
Lobivia Posted December 15, 2022 Author Posted December 15, 2022 NEW OBSERVATION: Screenshot of second image processed after Photo2 restart: see attachement. The level curve/spectrum is that of the previous image. The verical line at near the right edge (white) is seen, whereas the white level is at 100%. Quote

Lobivia Posted December 16, 2022 Author Posted December 16, 2022 17 hours ago, Lobivia said: Thanks Chris B 🙂 Last observations: the bug seems to depend on whether and when I close the "previous" image(s) that I dealt with before I get the bug with the image under current processing. I am definitely unable to find/guess the logical chain that leads systematically to the bug… NB: along my work with the images of a book, I am alternating between Photo2 and Publisher2 as follows: All the raw images are first placed in a Publisher files. Then, image after image: I make image corrections using Photo2 (independantly of Publisher, i.e., not using "modify with photo…" from the file menu) I go back to Publisher2 and I "fix the linked ressource that has been changed", and I place the image within the page as desired. Then I open the next image in Photo2 and back to step 1. Is the "flip flop" between Photo2 and Publisher 2 involved in the bug? Quote
