Affinity V1 Hangs and needs to reboot several times in a session.

Recommended Posts

When I first purchased Affinity Photo several years ago, all appeared to work seamlessly.

Then, it started to hang whenever it felt like it and it does not recover but has to be forced closed and then restarted causing considerable lost data.

What has happened???

Thanks!

What has changed since "several years ago" ?

• Hardware
• Operating system version
• Affinity version
• Affinity preferences
• projects, workflows
• installed / used fonts
• file storage paths
… ?

macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1

Here's a rundown of the hardware/software.

 Hardware:

-  32 MB RAM

- CPU  Intel i7-8700

- GPU - NVidia EXT - 1060

• Operating system version

  • MS Windows 10 PRo
  • V10.0.19045  Build 19045

• Affinity version

  • V1.10.5.1342

• Affinity preferences

  • Which ones?

• projects, workflows
• installed / used fonts
• file storage paths

  • C:\Program Files\Affinity\Photo\Resources\Affinity Photo
  • C:\Users\TCI_Development\.affinity

Oh and when installing V2.0, it didn't remove V1.10

Thanks!

Again, it may help to know what literally has changed since then. – From your list it is (at least) the Affinity version … though you did not tell whether the issue appears today in V1 or V2 or in both. – However, until someone with Windows experience will pop-in you might check if one of these threads cover your problem:

https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/search/&q=Nividia&quick=1&search_and_or=and&sortby=relevancy

Some of them recommend the Affinity Preference > Performance > …, others a Windows > GPU setting or a Nivida driver update as possible solution.

First make sure your graphics drivers are up to date. If that doesn't help, turning off hardware acceleration is worth a try if you have it on. Edit->Preferences->Performance.

If  that doesn't help, resetting user data might help. Hold control when you start up. But back up your macros and assets etc first.

Thanks for your responses!

I have updated the NVidea driver and will now:

-  Check the windows settings for Affinity to try to ensure that Affinity is using the NVidea card.

-  Reset Affinity as suggested by pressing the "Ctrl" key while starting up.
