Download of Sample files from different/older versions?

Recommended Posts

Where can I download sample files that were included in previous versions of each windows based apps?

Is there thread on this forum for all sample files that were ever provided with each app?

I have a general idea of design I want to re-create but I need reference file to see how it was done!?!?

ie Designer file for vintage-art deco box design for board game maybe???

I need to download sample files provided in previous versions of each app, cause I don't remember where I seen sample design I need to use as inspiration idea and layout technique :((

If you are referring to the sample files that you can download from within the v1 Affinity apps, unfortunately they can not be permanently Saved or Exported.
Once your system is restarted they will be automatically deleted and you would need to re-download the sample/s again.

In my experience they will survive a restart. In any case, you can use File > Open Folder in Explorer (or Finder) and copy them someplace else and save them that way.

But you're right that the V1 Samples are supplied Locked and cannot be Saved from within the program, or Exported. Nor can you copy/paste from them.

The V2 Samples are not Locked, and can be modified, Saved, Exported, copied, etc.

There is no repository of the Sample images that I know of. You would have to have the release and app installed that provided the sample, download and open the sample, and make a copy at that time.

Interesting…🤔
On Macs, the v1 Samples are totally locked, they can not, as I say, be Saved or Exported nor can you copy them or any of their content to a new document.

That's true on Windows, too. But can't you use File > Open Folder in Finder, then use Finder to copy them someplace else for archival purposes?

You can download and open sample file, then go to C:\Users\"YourPCName"\AppData\Roaming\Affinity\Designer\1.0\Samples for v1 & v2 files are located in C:\Users\"YourPCName"\AppData\Local\Affinity\2.0\Designer\Samples

Now I'm not going to reinstall every old v1 variation just to find 1 sample file that came with it, that is just not practical :(

Hope someone has downloaded them and can share ;)

Also, I believe there is option under File->Open Download folder that will take you directly to same sample folder location from above

The V2 samples (once downloaded) would be in C:\Users\<username>\.affinity\Photo\2.0\Samples or more generically, %USERPROFILE%\.affinity\Photo\2.0\Samples as V2 doesn't keep data in local AppData any more.

I'm  not sure that would be quite legal (copyright and/or licensing issues), but someone from Serif would have to comment on that.

No, that's not an option that exists on Macs.
But as you point out there are copyright issues to consider here and clearly Serif and possibly the artists involved do not want users permanently keeping these particular v1 sample files.

Serif wants us to use these sample files to learn how it was made, so we can learn to make our own version of that style of design by being able to view its layer structure etc!

They just don't want us to use it for anything else except as educational/tutorial tool, no commercial use.
