ARW Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 Hi, This problem started last week, I am using Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7. I wasn't using Affinity photo ver 1.10.5. and I didn't have it open. It then began to open copies of itself and this slowed my Mac down to a point where it became slow to respond to any inputs probably down to 3-5 minutes. I wasn't able to quit or even force quit Affinity, each time I di force quit one it immediately reopened itself. I restarted my Mac and then uninstalled and reinstalled Affinity photo. (I Used Avast to completely remove AP) That was two days ago, this morning I was using my Mac to upload camera images using Capture One Exp, Affinity was not open or running and the same issue started with affinity opening itself multiple times. I have now uninstalled AP again but not reinstalled it to stop the issue slowing my workflow. I have attached screenshots for information and would really appreciate any help with this. Thanks in advance ARW Quote
walt.farrell Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 It sounds like you have Affinity Photo set as the default app for opening some kind of file, and you're doing something that is actually opening that kind of file. But I wouldn't expect multiple copies of Photo to be running. I'll have to let a Mac user comment further, though. markw Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 Well, this is definitely a strange one, never seen this before! And not sure I really have an answer for you. While macOS generally won’t let a user launch the same app twice, the system can let itself do it under some circumstances. Now this may be a long shot, but I wonder if you have any other apps or background scripts set to open Photo as an external app for some file types or under certain circumstances? And maybe it’s one of these that has gone rouge and is triggering this behaviour? MikeTO Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 I'm not a Camera One user but I suggest looking at your Capture One settings. Perhaps start with the plugins Open With settings. ARW Posted November 21, 2022 Author Posted November 21, 2022 Hello and thanks to all who have replied: I have acted on your advice and have confirmed that I am using Preview as my default application to open images. I eventually found that Fuji X Acquire, which I have just started to use for Tethered shooting was the culprit. I checked in the "Linked software" tab in preferences and the "Software to link" was indeed set to use Affinity P. I cleared link for RAW and JPEG files and have reinstalled AP. I opened fuji X Acquire with my camera tethered and AP has not activated itself. It doesn't clear up how my Mac was able to launch so many copies of AP, but that's maybe something for another time 👍 Thank you. MikeTO and walt.farrell 2 Quote
