Is there an easy way get two pictures on one canvas to be aligned perfectly but with borders between and around them?

I believe I understand what you're looking to achieve, and for this I would recommend using Guides - I've created a very quick screen recording below with an example:

That looks close to what I want. Except that I want the two photos to be perfectly placed so that the white frame (the white background) is the same thickness on all sides, including between them. And I’m not sure I could eyeball it the way I seem to have to do with your method.

I did not know about those guides though, so I’ll see what I can do with them.

Quick edit: oh there is a thing that lets me input the exact pixel height(?) I want them at. That might work! Is there any way to save the placements of the guides? I’m going to do this 10 times. Maybe I can just load all the photos onto the same canvas and export them one after another by hiding the layers I don’t need in the moment, if that makes sense.

wow, thanx! this is by far much more than just a helpful answer. your "tutorial" is highly appreciated!

( if i now only knew, how long i can test drive Publisher before the price rises, i'd be somehow "appeased" with Affinity. That's not your business, but i'm still upset, that i just recently bought Photo & Designer - for future use ... - and now have to buy again. That's pretty heavy for a poor artist like me ...)

Lol, I’m retired and no income! Seriously though, the universal licence is great value at the moment, all apps, all platforms at a very good discount. What’s not to like!👏

me is retired too ... with only minimum income left. i do my grafix (nowadays) exclusively on my iPad. (the windows pc is kinda retired too) so the whole bundle is, i agree, a pretty reasonable offer, but .... (btw: (my IG user name equals mine here ...))
