Drawing a shape using curves, then filling separate areas

Recommended Posts

A bit of a newbie issue here.

I've drawn a curve shape using the pen tool, then drawn another curve inside that visually separates the original shape.

I want to fill each area of the shape with a different colour, but I can't see how. I've tried different combinations of merging curves, doing nodes etc, but can't quite figure it out. The fill tool always fills the entire shape, with missing areas.

I thought this might be because the shapes aren't joined properly, but when I try to join them, new lines are created.

Any ideas where I'm going wrong?

Attached images show the original shape, the result when I try to fill a section, and the result when I try to close curves. Join curves also creates a new line.

I am guessing that is a mountain pushed over by the wind. The squiggly line is obviously the tree line.

Duplicate the Mountain. Put two new nodes where the tree line would be and break both sides of the mountain so you now have a top and bottom that are both open curves.

Choose one and Close it, add some nodes to recreate the tree line. Put this over the entire mountain and you have two closed curves you can colour separately.

Or ... if you are married to the squiggly line for the tree line then you have to select the nodes on one of the bits of the mountain and the tree line Join the curves and then choose the opposite pair and Close the curve.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
