Background Erase through Foreground / Background Colors

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Photoshop's "Background Eraser" allows one to select both the background color to erase and the foreground to preserve. This is great because it allows you to delete parts of an image with varying opacity, as can be seen below:

The flowers in the image are being erased along with the background due to their similar colors.

Detailed functionality of the tool is described here https://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-editing/background-eraser/

Does affinity photo allow for this?

Thank you

Thanks for the quick reply but this does not help. I should have mentioned that I did try using the "background eraser" in AP but couldn't get it to delete colors sampled within the manually picked background / foreground range. It is only deleting dinamycally (based on the color below the eraser brush) and it is deleting "fully" (no reduced opacity pixels preserved).

I assumed this was a clear answer to your question "Does affinity photo allow for this?", which is - with Background Eraser no.

The erase background brush does not have the additional features of Photoshop but I've used those features and they are far from perfect. Don't discount Affinity's selection tools and also the pen tool to make good selections. On less complex shapes I use the Pen Tool to get a nice mask and tweak it by dropping the opacity of the masked area and adjusting as necessary, plus the pen tool is a guaranteed method of obtaining an excellent selection, plus the more you use it the faster you get. It's not that much slower but it is very accurate. on complex leafy backgrounds I do tend to use third-party apps, although Affinity's tools can get decent results at times.
