Squidlet Posted April 7, 2022 Posted April 7, 2022 I've been trying to figure this out for a long time now and its driving me mental. I need to reset my spelling language to a supported language because my spell checker is not working. All the online resources direct me to the user preferences. I have changed this to English United Kingdom. However this seems to mean nothing to Publisher, as it keeps picking up "unknown -en nz" under character and paragraph windows, despite changing my language in the preferences. My spell checker does not work, until I manually change the language setting under character settings for every single new text box I make. It keeps reverting to this unsupported language and I have to manually change it to English-United Kingdom. I have tried completely resetting Publisher which did not reset this setting. How do I change this so it defaults to a supported language? Quote
walt.farrell Posted April 7, 2022 Posted April 7, 2022 You could: Draw a text frame, then click that pulldown and choose English (UK), and then from the menu use Edit > Defaults > Synchronize from Selection. That should then set the default for future text frames in that document. If you then use Edit > Defaults > Save it might set them for future new documents, too. Or, you could change the Language/Spelling setting in the Text Style named Base, if you are using text styles and using the default ones supplied by Publisher. Or, you could install a copy of the English dictionaries for some other English variant, and call them en-NZ dictionaries. The FAQ will help you find dictionaries to download, and you could, for example, grab the US or UK dictionaries but install them as en-NZ rather than as en-US or en-UK. You would need to make a directory of that name and rename the files. Squidlet Posted April 26, 2022 Author Posted April 26, 2022 Thank you sooooo much Walt!!! Your first option did in fact save the default for future documents. What a difference this small change has made to my workflow! Thank you! Quote
