Squidlet reacted to a post in a topic: How to change spelling language default?
-
I've been trying to figure this out for a long time now and its driving me mental. I need to reset my spelling language to a supported language because my spell checker is not working. All the online resources direct me to the user preferences. I have changed this to English United Kingdom. However this seems to mean nothing to Publisher, as it keeps picking up "unknown -en nz" under character and paragraph windows, despite changing my language in the preferences. My spell checker does not work, until I manually change the language setting under character settings for every single new text box I make. It keeps reverting to this unsupported language and I have to manually change it to English-United Kingdom. I have tried completely resetting Publisher which did not reset this setting. How do I change this so it defaults to a supported language?

Thank you so much for outlining every step you did Garry, this is extremely helpful! Whilst this course is extremely informative and I'm learning loads, it doesn't tell you how to translate "how to set tracking", because its not for a specific program. So I'm also learning how to use Publisher with online tutorials. And thank you Thomaso for your real world application advice Alot of what I have been trying to do makes sense now.

That would actually be really helpful, thank you Garry! I tried to make it work with Justified text, but struggled to avoid the rivers you mentioned. So I have switched it to left aligned and have been working on the ragline a little bit. I'll just attach the document I've been working on, if that's easier. The Font is Georgia, the size is 9pt and it was just a basic assignment to research the font and then use that body of text to create two paragraphs, with an appealing layout and a simple Header and sub header. I have been trying to create a grid as well, I managed to make a "base grid" I think its called, but couldn't work out how to make "column's". I realize this one is simple and probably doesn't need a grid, but I'd love to be able to practice setting them up to make a layout over multiple pages. I really appreciate any advice you could offer Georgia assignment 2.afpub

I'm new to Affinity Publisher and am working through a course for graphic design and typography. I need to practice doing page layouts and have been told to adjust line length and character counts try try and make my blocks of text look more visually appealing, however I can't seem to find an option for any of these in the tools. Is it an option in Affinity Publisher? Thanks :)

Designer crashes when trying to open previous saved file
Squidlet replied to Squidlet's topic in V1 Bugs found on Windows
Hi Sean, Thank you for your response It started as an affinity file, originally I had two art boards open 1000x1000 pixels each. This was the second artboard, which started lagging and freezing as I was working, which I assumed was because the file size was getting too big for what my laptop could handle maybe. So I was attempting to break both artboards into their own files, so I used the export option with just this artboard selected and saved it as a PSD as I couldn't find the affinity file symbol? The other artboard from the same project which I saved as the same file type is opening fine, and when I view the file in my computer folder, it shows the affinity symbol? Is there another file type that would work better than PSD for this exporting? -
Are you using the latest release version? Yes Can you reproduce it? Yes Does it happen for a new document? If not do you have a document you can share that shows the problem? Doesn't happen for a new file. What is your operating system and version (Windows 10, OSX Mojave, iOS 12 etc)? Windows 10 What happened for you (and what you expected to happen) Everytime I try to open the previous file I was working on, Designer crashes. It will open a new document and other documents I have worked with fine. Provide a recipe for creating the problem (step-by-step what you did). Screenshots (very handy) or a screen capture/video. Any unusual hardware (like tablets or external monitors or drives that may affect things) or relevant other applications like font managers or display managers. Did this same thing used to work and if so have you changed anything recently? (software or hardware) This is the first time I have experienced this problem, I havn't changed anything on my computer and have been using Affinity for a few weeks. artboard 1.psd

Wow nice job! Which tools did you use mainly to create this? Would you mind doing a brief rundown of your process? I would be interested to know :)
