I feel I'm probably missing something REALLY dumb, and I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

When I shoot RW2 files on my G9, and open them in Affinity, what really opens seems to be some kind of JPG preview, where exposure, contrast, and lens settings have already been adjusted. I'm assuming it's data baked into the RW2 from the camera.

However, when i open the file in Windows Photos, I see a proper RAW file that doesn't have any of those edits baked in.

I've dug through the forums and help topics here, but I can't for the life of me find a way to get Affinity to open the ACTUAL RAW image to work from.

In the example I've attached, the highlights on the brick behind are blown out, and I can't recover them.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

How are you Opening the files in Affinity?

There are some pre-adjustments that Affinity can apply, which are controlled in the Assistant Manager. View > Assistant Manager, then (if you're not doing this from the Develop Persona) click on Develop at the bottom. Perhaps one of them is having the effect you're seeing?

There is no actual image in a RAW file, just a lot of data that can be used to make ("develop") an image. This is explained in depth in the Affinity Spotlight article called, appropriately enough, RAW actually.

Walt you nailed it!

I knew it was probably something simple I was overlooking! I'd disabled the Assistant, and completely missed the Develop Assistant settings.

I really appreciate the reply. I was smashing my face on my keyboard all morning.
