AF and LG LED LCD 27" monitor issue.

Af works fine on the two smaller Viewsonic monitor. The problems start when opening or dragging AF to the the new LG 27" LED LCD monitor. See screen capture. If I drag AF back to a smaller moitor all is well. This issue makes it impossible to use the application on the LG monitor for which it was purchased. When using mouse or wacom pad menus/tools  dont work etc.

Detatching the image into a separate window carries part of the problems with it.

I have searched and excluded  many of the forum issues already mentioned.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Cheers

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear about your issue.

The most probable cause is gpu driver issues, or hardware related issues.

Can you post screenshots of all relevant settings from Windows / drivers?

  • gpu vendor / model / driver version
  • display settings (resolution / color channel bit depth) of all displays.

Do you have 3 displays connected?
while this is possible in theory, it is a good source of trouble on Windows OS.

I too have 2 PCs, using a 5K and a 4K display, and the (newer) Dell Laptop with USB-C dock has so many driver / firmware issues that it is almost impossible to use both screens (or 3 when combined with internal). Dell has a list of supported max resolutions, this differs for dock models. So hw limits could be a factor.

Sometimes it didn’t work at all, sometimes issues started after some usage with a multitude of symptoms.

A common source of odd things happening is the hardware acceleration. If its on, try turning it off. (Edit->Preferences->Performance). Possibly not the problem but be worth eliminating it as a cause.

Of all my graphics and vector programs AF is the only one to glitch. Investigation revels: NVIDIA does not see the LG monitor, Intel doesn't see the ViewSonic monitors. WIN sees all three monitor and allows adjustments. Me thinks I have a graphics card issue even though all other apps work ok. I'll investigate further. Any recommendations on graphics cards?

Thank you both for your help. I like AFP and am just getting the hang of it. Would hate to have to change...

I'll work on getting additional info.

Cheers,

A setup with 3 totally different displays (DPI, Resolution, color rendering) and 2 GPUs is always something special and not ideal.

It is difficult to give advice out of the distance, we even don’t know if the issue is caused by hardware or software. Updating the GPU driver could be a first measure, maybe swapping the LG display to the nVidia GPU.

Current nVidia GPUs are a good choice for Affinity apps, or Apple M1.

AMD GPU are currently not first choice based on an still unfixed issue with OpenCL driver (relevant for Photo, not for Designer).

BTW: even the displays have firmware, you may try to update the display firmware. For me it solved an issue with flickering (cycling on/off status every second).

Hi RMH, Win finds all three monitors. To me the interesting point is that I had no issues until adding the LG monitor.

I'm not a techie hardware or software guy so all this stuff is a big stretch for me . However... LG HDR 4K instructions said to use only the LG DP cable or else issues may happen. Well. I have issues so might as well try stuff. Is an HDMI to DP adapter a viable option? The LG can only plug into the motherboard DP so change to use the Invidia card not possible.

Well, I figured this out. It is a resolution issue. AFP works fine on LG HD 4K until a resolution above 2048x1536. Then the problems start. As to how this is I can't answer whither it is AFP or the LG drivers etc.. I can live with this resolution. I'm just happy to be able to use AFP and this new monitor.

Thanks to NMF and RMH for their help. Maybe AF team can figure this out in future.
