Hi, can anyone point me in the right direction please? I use Affinity Designer on my MacBook (and was a long time user of Serif DTP software before going Apple). I can create simple stuff & edit designs I have created but am by no means an advanced user!

I have some files created a while ago by a graphic design company, and I want to update a tiny part to be used again next year. They gave me jpeg, eps & pdf versions. When I open any of the formats I can't seem to edit just a tiny part like one letter or section of the design. So for example if I try to delete a tiny thing it would delete a whole big section.

I appreciate the easiest answer is to give it to a graphic designer, but this is for a community / non-profit making activity, and therefore anything I pay out is a cost. And I'm pretty sure I should be able to do what I need with Affinity.

I know there are tutorials and help pages, but I'm not sure what question I should be asking!

Here is one of the files (eps) I simply want to change the 5 to a 6 so it reads 2016. Can anyone explain in plain terms how I can do that? I have a number of other files I need to alter, so if I can find out how to do one that would really help. Thank you

Hi JeanetteM,

Welcome to the Forums :)

Once you have opened your .EPS file you will need to right click the Layer in the Layers tab and choose merge visible.

Then you will need to remove the 5 so we can add the 6.There's quite a few ways to achieve this you could use the Inpainting tool to erase the 5 and then replace it with the 6 using the Text Tool. However the easyiest way I found was to use the Colour Picker (see the first screenshot) to pick the colour of the background where the year is. Then use the Paint Brush tool to paint over the 5 and replace it with a 6 using the Text Tool.

Hi JeanetteM,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

The issue is that the text is not editable anymore. It was converted to curves (that is, shapes with the form of letters) and as such cannot be changed simply deleting and typing again.

If you still have the original font used to create the text, you can install it on your computer and use it to recreate any letters/numbers in your project easily.
