Steve100 Posted January 17, 2022 Posted January 17, 2022 Hi, I'm creating some thumbnail images for my blog posts using Affinity Designer. The designs comprise a background image, a transparent layer over the image, a logo and some text. The background image and text is different for each blog post. I've created a template document and I just copy it and add the background image and change the text for each blog post. I'm just wondering if there's a more efficient way to do this. Could I somehow put the files for each design into a directory and process all directories to generate a thumbnail for each blog post? In the future, it would be handy to be able to change the logo, for example, for all images in one process rather than having to edit each file individualy and replace the logo manually but there are other changes that could be done in batch. Ron P. Posted January 17, 2022 Posted January 17, 2022 I don't think using Symbols will quite get you to where you want. I haven't played around with them much. It seems it's limited (like a lot of things) to per document. I'm thinking you would need to set them up in each document. I'm not sure if they're like Assets, where they're maintained and can be accessed in any document you open. However Symbols do allow for quick changes to repeating elements of your design. So for example your logo. If you logo appears several times in a document, then via the Symbols, changing just one, will change all those that are linked/synced through Symbols. If you haven't yet, you might look at them and see if you can figure out a way to make them improve your workflow. Designer Help>Symbols Sadly Designer does not have Batch Processing like Photo. Steve100 Posted January 17, 2022 Author Posted January 17, 2022 Carl123 and Ron P, Thank you for your replies. A linked file looks to be a good idea. I assume I'd still need to edit to each afdesign file and export the jpg but at least I'd only have to update the logo once. Symbols are worth bearing in mind but I don't have any repeating elements in this case. Best Regards, Steve Quote
