Missing Resources when moving files from iMac to MacBook Pro.

Recommended Posts

I created a brochure on my iMac.  I have just got a new MacBook Pro and copied all the files from the iMac to the MacBook by using the backup made on the iMac so all the files are in the same directory on both devices.  When I open the brochure on the MacBook all of the pictures are blurred so are shown as missing resources. I can get them to view clearly by just replacing the image, but I can't understand why it isn't finding them as they are all in the same directory. I don't want to have to do this for every image as there are hundreds of them in the brochure.  I am missing something obvious?

I don't know why it would do that, but it may simply indicate that Publisher thinks the images are modified, not missing. There's a Preference setting under General for automatically updating Linked images that are modified externally. You might see if you have that enabled.

For a simpler workaround for the issue than manually updating each one: in Resource Manager there's a Relink button. Try selecting all the images then clicking Relink.

I have got that automatic linking option checked in preferences so that doesn't appear to work.  The relinking works - thanks for the tip, I just hope I don't have to do it again when I copy the updated file back to the iMac!

You most likely will have to do that. I am just guessing that the names of the machines are different, or the names of the User Accounts are different on the iMac and the MacBook. This will give the two machines different file paths. It is not good enough that the names of the files and their enclosing folders are the same, the entire file path needs to be the same.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
