I have not had a lot of images to process lately so I have not been using or watching APB much for the past few weeks. Today I noticed that sometime in that time the developers have added Panorama functionality to APB and I tried it out on some of my panos.

I typically have used an external application since the Lightroom 6 Pano functionality does not work very well and cannot stitch some of my panos. I tried the new APB Pano on some of those images and it does a wonderful job. Bravo and thank you. Any plans to do HDR as well?

Thanks Mike,

I've used the panorama feature myself a couple of times recently (I can take no credit - it's Justin's work) - and I agree - it seems to perform well!

Whether or not we do HDR depends on what you mean by HDR ;) Seems to me like it means many things to many people - but yes, we plan to look into it!

Mike! Great seeing you around here :)

Yes the Panorama is great!

The HDR thing using stacks and Median Mode is somehow very limited.

Median says it all, the extreme values get erased but in HDR they should be preserved (in the relevant areas). I really was surprised to see this approach in the help file. It is a sort of HDR but a really soft one. I´d appreciate the most intense one possible  :D

- really looking forward to your implementation in the future!

And Andys response says it all, he´s well aware of different ways so seems to be alright!

Great seeing you around here

Thanks. I was offline for some time because I had no photos to process and thus no reason to be using APB. It feels good to be back.

The HDR thing using stacks and Median Mode is somehow very limited.

I know very little of how HDR is actually implemented. Oh, I can make some assumptions involving luminosity masks and selective merging, but it is all guesswork on my part. I have never actually done any of this. On the other hand I have tried a lot of HDR tools and, as with you, I prefer those capable of making intense changes. I do not always want those intense changes but assume that is what the opacity layers setting is for.

I have seen a new HDR tool named Aurora HDR which actually seems very complete. The tool has a complete set of adjustments, beyond what I have seen available on other tools, as well as a large number of presets, and allows each preset adjustment to be further adjusted by controlling the intensity of the change. In addition it also has built-in gradient controls so it does a good job. However it is expensive.

I have been using the HDR tool built into Lightroom 6 and that does a decent job. Not great, but OK. The tool that I was the happiest with was a Windows based tool named SNS-HDR created by some guy in Poland. Like a lot of such dedicated small operations he did a great job at a reasonable cost, but the tool only works on Windows so, when I moved to the Mac, I had to abandon it. Given the great job that Serif has done with everything I have seen I am really looking forward to any HDR functionality they create.
