DooshPastesh Posted November 18, 2021 Posted November 18, 2021 I've encountered a massive performance drop in whole application. I haven't been using app since two last updates, bu I've updated Photo since then to latest official version. Today I wanted to edit some .DNG photo from my drone camera, around 18Mb file, but the app is unusable. Constant beach ball on every tool I use, opening "open file" window hangs my computer for 20 seconds, and entering Tone Map Persona takes forever, eating in few seconds 8Gb of memory and still grow, memory pressure says more than 300% to 1600% !!! I've panicked a bit and force closed the app and rebooted. Then reopened it and now it doesn't allow me to enter Tone Map Persona saying that picture is not pixel/RGB even that I've already converted it before... And still it is very laggy to use. Seems broken. How to fix it? Edit: Screenshots from second attempt to run endless Tone Map Persona, because it allowed me to enter this mode. BTW, I'm on latest Monterey official release MBA M1 8Gb RAM. Quote

DooshPastesh Posted November 18, 2021 Author Posted November 18, 2021 I will try later today with beta. Will I be able to update to stable later when this beta hits stable channel? Quote
walt.farrell Posted November 18, 2021 Posted November 18, 2021 The beta and retail are separate applications. You will just stop using the beta, and update the retail when the new retail release becomes available. DooshPastesh Posted November 18, 2021 Author Posted November 18, 2021 So, do I have to have two separate versions alongside? Sorry for such questions, this is my first MacBook. Or just uninstall beta and install official? Quote
Staff Pauls Posted November 18, 2021 Staff Posted November 18, 2021 you can have both installed at the same time Quote
DooshPastesh Posted November 18, 2021 Author Posted November 18, 2021 Unfortunately, beta didn't helped. Still entering Tone Map Persona takes forever and eats tons of RAM. However, other parts of Photo seems to be a bit snappier. I guess I haver to wait for Apple to fix memory leak. Photo is unusable for me in this condition. As I'm writing this Tone Map Persona is calculating and haven't reached half bar yet... Edit: This is interesting as f. I've tried to tinker with other, bigger and smaller files and there is no pattern which I choose, some are opening blazing fast and other are choking Photo app when entering Tone Map Persona. Edit2: It happens with large (pixel range) files. When I place 4000x4000 pixel image on A0 it will choke definitely. On A1 it will take some time, but finish and let me enter TMP. My other files, not bigger than 4000x4000 are opening TMP instantly. This was tested on 10.0.4, because it behaves similar on both beta and official. Long story short, something is wrong because before Monterey it always opened my files instantly or in few seconds. Quote
RetroDesire Posted November 19, 2021 Posted November 19, 2021 i am having same issue very slow and laggy on photo with the latest updat,e running ios monterey. What's the deal Quote
DooshPastesh Posted December 14, 2021 Author Posted December 14, 2021 Unfortunately, Monterey 12.1 didn't fixed memory hog on stable 1.10.4 Quote
DooshPastesh Posted February 13, 2022 Author Posted February 13, 2022 After few MacOS updates (currently 12.2.1) and switching to OpenGL rather than Metal, Affinity Photo became usable again. Unfortunately it isn't as snappy as it used to be at the beginning of the M1 journey. Working on large formats like A1, A0 or bigger still chokes software a lot. But, it's responsible now. Quote
