Sony ARW files cropped

Recommended Posts

Using the latest version of Affinity Photo (1.10.1.1142)

Edition    Windows 10 Pro
Version    21H1
Installed on    ‎18/‎08/‎2020
OS build    19043.1165
Experience    Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3530.0

Processor    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9750H CPU @ 2.60GHz   2.59 GHz
Installed RAM    32.0 GB (31.8 GB usable)
System type    64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Graphics Hardware: GeForce GTX 1660 Ti/PCIe/SSE2

OpenGL Driver: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 462.75

CPU RAM: 32605 MB

Video RAM: 6144 MB

and ViewSonic Display Manager is loaded on startup

When using an APS-C lens on a Sony RIV the camera defaults to only using the part of the sensor. Those AWR files when opened in Affinity Photo are cropped. e.g. see the width of the brickwork on the left when opened with Affinity as opposed to Windows Photos App

Hello @JeffGreen,

Welcome to this forum.

I think the problem is the lens correction...
Affinity Photo applies the Sony EP2 18_105mm f/4 G OSS profile, this does not seem to be the right one.why ever.
Set the distortion to minus 27, or  apply the profile Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OOS.

I hope this helps.

Cheers

Try this xml file in the Lens profile folder

The lens will still auto select as
Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS

so use the drop down and select
Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSSdc  just below

If you prefer this correction then change the model from
<model>E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSSdc</model>
to
<model>E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS</model>
with a text editor

Thank you. I’m beginning to make sense of this - if there are different lens profiles depending on the body sensor size (the dc suffix might be a clue). Editing the file would be useful for batch processing.  Then I’d have to edit back when using an APS-C body.
Looking at your xml file it seems like a matter of changing the crop factor for 1.54 to 1 when using APS-C lenses on full frame bodies. As a workaround it’s magnificent.

Well done, it's a dark art

If you have more Sony APS-C lenses being used on the full frame body then you can edit the xml to include those lenses by copying the lens data from
https://github.com/lensfun/lensfun/blob/master/data/db/mil-sony.xml and changing the crop factor to 1

If they are not Sony then you can try other areas on the lensfun site

It would be interesting to delete dc from the model then see what happens when you try a file from an APS-C body with the same lens. It might work, I dunno. In days of yore you could get away with a lens profile without a camera body specified but that no longer works and probably just as well. So does the xml file limit the new correction to just the Alpha 7R IV body, again, I dunno but it's worth a shot to enable auto selection for both cases?
