Boodzik Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 Hi, I've tried to install Polish hyphenation dictionary in Afinity Publisher. I've done everything according to this https://affinity.help/publisher/en-US.lproj/index.html?page=pages/Text/hyphenationInstalling.html?title=Installing%20hyphenation%20dictionaries and this https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?%2Ftopic%2F98911-faq-how-do-i-add-additional-dictionaries-to-affinity-publisher%2F&fbclid=IwAR1M2YbrQz9dYRnegS-uLWq-eBYYWU1wCQb9Do_WUpDNptbsuygluR1WzRQ tutorials. I even installed Chrome on Mac to make sure that I'm downloading the actual .dic file and not the .html one. Publisher shows Polish language in hyphenation options but it does not split words in a text box. Thanks in advance for your help :) Quote
walt.farrell Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, @Boodzik. First, please open the hyphenation dictionary in a text editor and give us a screenshot of the first few lines. Also a screenshot from Finder showing the directory you've installed it in. Next, please make sure you've enabled automatic hyphenation in the Hyphenation settings in the Paragraph panel, and also show us the Hyphenation settings there. Also, please put the cursor in a text frame where you think hyphenation should be working, and verify that the Spelling Language shows as Polish in the Character panel where the cursor is positioned. Boodzik Posted August 19, 2021 Author Posted August 19, 2021 Hi @walt.farrell, thank you for a quick response Here're screenshots from the text editor, finder directory ("użytkownicy" is "users" and "biblioteki" is "library" in Polish), the Character and Paragraph Panels Quote
walt.farrell Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 Thanks. That setup looks good to me. I see there are some hyphenated words, so I would guess that the basic function is working. However, I do not know Polish so I have no idea of which others should be hyphenated. Dan C Posted August 21, 2021 Posted August 21, 2021 Hi @Boodzik, Welcome to the Affinity Forums Similar to Walt, I can see this hyphenation dictionary has been successfully installed into Affinity Publisher - but unfortunately I too am not familiar with Polish so I could not comment on the hyphenation itself. This is controlled by the dictionary you have installed, so you may want to try a dictionary from another source. Could you please expand on the issue you have with the current dictionary please? Many thanks in advance! Boodzik 1 Quote
Boodzik Posted August 21, 2021 Author Posted August 21, 2021 (edited) @walt.farrell thanks, I don't know what kind of sorcery is this, but... now it works It's probably because previously I named the folder pl_PL (as suggested by the Affinity help website https://affinity.help/publisher/en-US.lproj/index.html?page=pages/Text/hyphenationInstalling.html?title=Installing hyphenation dictionaries). I've changed the name to pl-PL and it seems to work. Thank you for your support Edited August 21, 2021 by Boodzik walt.farrell and Dan C 2 Quote
