Aligning shapes to a curve?

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a way on designer ipad to align shapes to a curve. Like for example differently sized rays of a sun following the circle. Kinda like how text can follow a curve.
Is there a way to do this?

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @Olilej.

You can paste raster or vector shapes inline with either straight text or text on a path. If you create a yellow circle, duplicate it and choose the Artistic Text Tool, tapping on the top circle will convert it to a text path (losing its fill in the process, which is why you need a duplicate). You can then paste the contents of the clipboard — e.g. a pair of triangles of different heights — at the text cursor.

Doesn’t work for me on iPad with latest beta. Pasted triangle does not show up in text path. Any idea?

My screenshots are from the latest retail version. I don’t currently have the beta installed, but I’ll install it soon and report my findings.

Edit: There doesn’t seem to be be a new beta since the 1.10.3 retail release.

Same on latest retail. How do you get the triangle into the pasteboard? I made a triangle, the used pasteboard->copy on the layer

can only paste letters, no other objects

I did the same (but with two triangles instead of only one).

Thank you Alfred, very useful. What if I wanted to have a series of all different shapes follow the curve? Same technique but copy/paste each shape one by one?

Yes, that would work. Alternatively, construct a row of shapes (like my two triangles, but longer) and copy/paste them all in one go.

I can’t get it to work. See screen recording. Paste triangle to text path never works for me. 
could you upload the file showing the result (text path having triangle pasted)?

So, after trying, I'm having the same problem as NotMyFault: pasting doesn't seem to work. The shapes are copied but won't appear on the circle.
Not sure what I am doing wrong...

Very strange, In about 1/3 of my attempts I can copy/paste from existing triangles to the path text, but I never succeeded pasting a fresh copy from triangles outside.

Yes, all very strange. Does the history in my file work correctly for you?

I can replay all steps from history.

when i replay a paste, and then try to paste again (not from history), nothing happens. But this could be a separate bug/feature: History does not record copy as individual step, or fill the pasteboard. It only applies the paste action.

Once i fired up my PC again, i will try it there.
