You can use the Media Browser for this, just click View>Media Browser in the app and you will be able to browse the images within Photos. Just double click the image to open it in Affinity :)

Another way to do it  and get the edited file saved automatically to iPhoto again is setting iPhoto to use Affinity Photo as an external editor.

 

First you have to set up iPhoto:

1. Go to iPhoto ▸ Preferences, Advanced tab, click on Edit Photos: dropdown and select Affinity Photo from the dialog.

2. Make sure *Use RAW when using external editor* is unchecked, otherwise iPhoto will lose track of the image since Affinity can't save directly the edits from the Develop Persona.

 

Now when you want to edit an image in iPhoto's Library, right-click on the image there and select Edit in External Editor. Affinity Photo will open with the image ready to be edited. Edit your image then do a File ▸ Save. Press the Save Flattened button (you have to save a flattened photo, since iPhoto doesn't support our native format (.afphoto) which is the format selected if you do a Save As). The image will be updated in iPhoto.

I do understand correctly, this works with iPhoto. However, Apples new Photos App does not?

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

Apple Photos doesn't provide the ability to edit an image in an external editor like iPhoto does.

This doesn't mean you can't access and edit images stored in Apple Photos, you can. But it doesn't update them automatically.

You have to do it manually.

Could you please point me to a method for editing ApplePhoto pictures? Or is it within the help files?

(Maybe I'd search through the forums more thoroughly, but this search flood limitation thing ...;)

Hi Chris,

If you want to work directly with RAW files, select the image you want to work with in Apple Photos, go to menu File ▸ Export ▸ Export Unmodified Original and then open it in Affinity Photo. After editing it, export it in your preferred format and import it again to Apple Photos using File ▸ Import...

 

You can also access Apple Photos library inside Affinity Photo using the menu File ▸ Open... and clicking on the Media section (on the right) or using the Media Browser (menu View ▸ Media Browser...) but they will open as JPG's.

Note that if you open the images using the Media Browser or File ▸ Open... and clicking on the Media section the images will be imported as JPG's.
