Nita Reed Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 Hello, See example screenshot. This is a vector eps file downloaded from DepositPhotos. It does not open in Affinity Designer with layers...it opens as an "image"...how do I change this for editing? Quote

That is probably not a pure vector EPS file, but one that was created by Adobe Illustrator (AI). If I'm right on that, your file requires Illustrator (or some other application, if any) that can interpret the proprietary data that AI has included within the file. The Affinity applications cannot process it, as they do not understand that proprietary data. I've done this with quite a few eps files, actually. I just thought I would ask since I have Designer but cannot seem to use for these... Quote
walt.farrell Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 Your best option is probably to use Photopea, and from there export as an SVG and then use that SVG in Designer. It probably won't be perfect, but may get you closer. Nita Reed Posted August 8, 2021 Author Posted August 8, 2021 Thanks...can't say I'm not disappointed though Quote
Lorox Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 Yeah, this reluctance/unability of Affinity Designer to open EPS files like these (and many other from Freepik etc.) correctly as vectors is quite annoying and took me by surprise as well. I wish this could be fixed in future versoins of AD. Strangely enough, when I opened these EPS with „Preview“ (on Mac) I was actually able to save just one or two of them as PDFs which Designer then opened as editable vectors. With others, however, the PDFs saved out of „Preview“ were just pixel images (on one of more layers with masks) when opened with Designer. I tried a couple of online EPS to PDF converters, too, but I only got pixel images this way as well. If you have an (even an old vintage/legacy) version of AI on some machine you can open these EPS with that copy of AI and then save as e.g. PDF, which I found can be opened in Designer with no problems. However, Photopea did do the trick: when opened in Photopea’s browswer interface and saved as PSD(!), Designer could open these PSD files preserving all the vector shapes and their grouping (if there was one). [I didn't actually notice the option to save/export as SVG from Photopea...] Always interesting what you'll learn even after a couple of years with the Affinity apps... Quote
