lfazzi
So guys, I know it's not your fault, but I'm reporting it just as well to let you know - in case it happens to someone else. Yesterday at dawn my Windows updated and after that no Affinity app works anymore. I tried all 3 and the bug persists: you click to launch the app, the splash screen appears and after that... nothing. The app closes and disappears. I tried compatibility modes on Windows and it didn't work, I tried to install and reinstall Affinity apps and nothing works. Affinity version of all apps: 1.9.2 Windows 10 version: 20H2 Compilation: 19042.1052

I wondered what you updated from? Or did you mean you did a normal, minor, Windows update while staying on 20H2? However, that really should not matter as the problem I was thinking of (that 20H2 caused) was fixed in 1.9.0. You might try the following: Press the Windows key and R. You'll get a Run dialog box. In the Open field, type or paste: %appdata%\affinity Press OK, and you'll get a File Manager window. It will have directories for Designer, Photo, and Publisher (if you have all 3). In each, there will be a 1.0 directory, and in the 1.0 directory for each application there will be a log.txt file. That file may have some interesting information to help diagnose your problem. Also, in the 1.0 directory for each application, there will be a CrashReports directory, and a Reports directory within that. This may have some DMP files. If any of them have a timestamp that matches the time you tried (and failed) to start the application, it will have useful information. Also, you might see if the Windows Application Event Log shows anything interesting at the time of the crashes. You can find information about accessing it in this FAQ article: Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. iPad: iPad Pro M1, 12.9": iPadOS 17.4.1, Apple Pencil 2, Magic Keyboard Mac: 2023 M2 MacBook Air 15", 16GB memory, macOS Sonoma 14.4.
lfazzi
thank you; you really helped me; now, where can i find a contact with affinity to send these logs/report? I tried to find the references on the Windows site/support and, like everything from Microsoft, there is only vague information about this specific error. walt.farrell
You can post them here if you want, and possibly one of us can identify the problem. Or you can wait, and when the Serif team gets to this bug report they can give you a private upload link. lfazzi
Forget it, I found out that other non-Affinity apps aren't working either, it's a 100% windows update problem, a corrupted file that even through cmd isn't resolving. thank you anyway walt.farrell
