Screenshot rectangle box selection does not support center zoom

Recommended Posts

I would like to be able to use center zoom when taking screenshots, just like Ctrl+Alt+Corner Stretch can be center zoomed, which is a very useful feature. Why is screenshot boxing not supported? and can support be added?

I must admit that I don't understand what you're asking for, @Poto. Sorry. Nor am I sure why the Crop Tool is relevant to the request. And I don't think that Affinity has anything special for screenshots.

But have you investigated all the possibilities of the Zoom Tool (shortcut Z, the Magnifying Glass tool icon)? It has several options that are shown in the Status Bar, and which also depend on what you have chosen in Photo's Preferences dialog, under Tools. There you will find a setting to enable (or not) the use of Scrubby Zoom.

With scrubby zoom disabled you can click to zoom in around the point you click on, or Alt+Click to zoom out around that point. Or you can draw a rectangle around the area you want to zoom to fit.

With scrubby zoom enabled you can do those, or additionally you can drag the mouse right (or left) to zoom in (or out)

If you double-click a layer icon its object will get centered + zoomed in the canvas window. Since every object gets zoomed to same max size (nearly filling the window) objects of different dimensions get zoomed at different levels this way. To adjust such a layer after it got centered you can use the zoom setting in the Navigator Panel or use the mouse / scrollwheel if positioned in the object's center.

Yes, it's a missing feature that the crop tool doesn't support modifier keys to constraint its behavior when its handles get dragged. If you don't find it as feature request by a search in the the Affinity Feedback Forum you could create a new topic as a feature request.

Also there is no center-to-window option for the crop tool. Alternatively you can create slices, they will get centered like layers on double-click.
