Nadar Posted May 31, 2021 Posted May 31, 2021 Hi I'd like to have a picture on a transparent background on a layer because I want to put it on another picture on another layer. I cropped my picture with the lasso but now what should I do to make the background transparent ? I inverted the selection. I cut. But the white area stays ! Thank you edit I also exported the picture in PNG but it still with a white background when I import it in Affinity… Quote Ipad Affinity Photo
DM1 Posted May 31, 2021 Posted May 31, 2021 General idea: Open first image. Place second image and hide layer.. Ensure both layers are pixel (rasterise if necessary). Use selection tool to select wanted area in one image. Finalise selection and output as new layer. Hide original layer. Select new layer and unhide the placed layer. Use move tool to finalise position. Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen). If you want to remove white background from placed image use the Erase White Paper filter in All filters menu list. IMG_7317.MP4 Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen). Nadar Posted June 1, 2021 Author Posted June 1, 2021 Thanks Paul … I tried to do as you do but after having create a selction woth the rectangle tool when I cut the area selected instead of having a white rectangle as you get nothing happens ! Here is a screen video it a little long (I am not used to it) but, please, be patient : IMG_5140.MP4 Quote Ipad Affinity Photo
DM1 Posted June 1, 2021 Posted June 1, 2021 Try using the smart selection brush tool to get a better selection. Use add /subtract as needed and refine then output to selection. Switch to Photo persona and long press screen tap delete to remove sky. Change canvas to transparent to see the effect. IMG_7320.MP4 Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen). I suspect you either do not have the correct layer selected when doing the cut and/or your layer says "image" not "pixel". If it says "image", then rasterise the layer first and repeat. You can delete your top layer by selecting it in the layer panel then selecting the waste paper bin just above it. 2. DM1 Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 1 hour ago, Nadar said: If I delete the first layer the cropped picture of the statue disapear because it is a part of it… Nadar you are simply moving the selection within the existing layer. You have missed an important step in the process. After making a selection you need to go to the bottom context menu, select refine and output as new layer as shown in my video. Then you can delete or untick the old layer. Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen). Nadar Posted June 3, 2021 Author Posted June 3, 2021 Thanks a lot DM1 When I do that there is still an issue as you can see half of the statue is covered by a part of the background : Quote Ipad Affinity Photo
DM1 Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 Nadar, it appears that you are still not correctly outputting to new layer, as the original layer shows a 'cut out' of the selection. Start from the beginning using the original image. Select , refine, set output to new layer and tap accept. Your original layer will be unchanged, your new layer will be the selection. Don’t drag the selection, just move the new layer as below. Paul Mudditt 1 Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen).
