I'm using Affinity Designer 1.9.3 which is the current version at this time. I'm using MacOS 11.2.3.

I have a second monitor.

I'm pretty new to Affinity Designer, but not new to vector software. Perhaps I am overlooking something about the way Affinity Designer works.

My problem is that I cannot get "New From Clipboard" to work the way that I expect.

In this screen capture you can see my original drawing. I have the drawing selected and you can see that it is 5.125" wide and 1.875" tall. With everything in that drawing selected I type command-C to copy the drawing.

In the File menu I select "New From Clipboard." You can see that the new document is made up of only the drawing I copied. That is exactly what I hoped for. I have the drawing selected in the screen capture and you can see that the Transform Panel Lists the size as 1537.5 px wide by 562.5 px high. That is not at all what I wanted. I want to be able to move the file to a cutting device at exactly the size that I had in the original drawing. Why is it suddenly in pixels instead of inches?

The next screen capture shows what Document Setup shows for the New From Clipboard document.

The next screen capture shows that when I change the Document Units to Inches, the Dimensions change to something else, but not what I want.

If I change the Document Units to Inches, and the DPI from 96 to 300, suddenly the drawing is the correct size, except that there is now extra space around the drawing. What I was hoping for was a way to replicate InkScape's "Resize page to drawing or selection." I want to be able to send my file to the cutting device with no extra space around the drawing.

I get similar results with whatever file I use. It is not a problem unique to this drawing.

Thanks for any help you can give me with this.

Hi @whit Welcome to the Affinity forums! I think the issue you are seeing with the additional space is a side-effect of the original issue. Once Copy from Clipboard is correct there will not be any need to resize. I am adding this post to the original bug so the development team will see these comments.

Once you've initiated New from Clipboard, and you have your file showing as 1537.5 px x 562.5 px, change the document resolution first, i.e. change the resolution for the file from 96dpi to 300dpi whilst the document is still set in px and then change the document units to inches and it will do want you want it to.
