I am new to this so if what I would like to do is possible I would need to know step by step how to do this .

Ok I have a main photo of my wife's family standing all together at this campground , trees and bushed in the background .. in front is grass . Nice picture .

What I would like to do is add a picture of my wife's father on one side in this picture and my wife's mother on the other side in the same picture , make it look like they were there when the picture was taken .

I have come across a picture of my wife's mother and father in two different phots . What I would need to do is take out the background and have just the picture of the person then add them to the main picture . make it look like they were in the picture went it was taken .

Not sure how I did it but was able to add the mother on one side and the father on the other but their background was in the picture . I tried to remover their backgrounds but could not .. Is there a way of doing this ?

So next I took just the picture of my wife's mother .. used eraser and took out all the background around her .. that took for ever to do .. and sure did not look natural . Is there a easier way of doing this and a way they it would look more natural ?

Next I brought up the main picture and somehow added my wife's mother to the picture on the left of the page but it was to high in the picture and I could not move it down , is there a way of ding this.

With my wife's mother in the picture what I took out in it was a white background so used the clone tool and cloned grass in front of her and cloned the tree in the back ground .. it came out ok but has to be a better way of doing this .. ?

So the bottom line would be taking 3 different photos and making them in to one .. Can this all be done so it looks natural .. ?

Welcome to the forums @gooblah

Without being able to see any of the images it’s difficult to give any precise advice.
This sort of thing doesn’t seem impossible but the fidelity of the result would very much depend on what the photos look like – relative light sources, relative image qualities, shading, colour/tone differences, etc. – and their relative resolutions.
If you can show us the photos then we can probably help further.

ok the main picture is the 4 boys and the one girl .. then if I do this right the second picture if there mother, When I get the picture there will be one that is their father .. what I would like to do is that any background out of the Mothers and fathers pictures then add them to the picture of the kids , one parent on one side and one on the other , make it look like the parents were in the picture when taken .. I have the mothers picture but wanting on the father . Both parent have passed away so it would be nice for me to do this for them .

And if possible make it look like they are standing in front of a lake with there reflection in the water .

I will try to attach the main photo and the mothers photo here .

Images are too dissimilar to do a perfect job but it might be good enough to fool the grandkids into thinking Grandma was really there.

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

Agreed, images which differ that much in quality/sharpness are difficult to match. I gave it a try and included some AI (Remini) in order to enhance the image of Granny.

For those interested in it, I've also attached the .aphoto file (quite big, 120+ MB gooblah.afphoto).

Wow . I think you did great considering what you had to work with .. Thank you very much . I will attach a few pictures of the father here can you add him to the left side . In one picture he is in the grey suit and in the other he is pointing up into a tree .. See what one will work best id you can .

How do I learn who to do this myself .. is there a step by step that you can tell me .

I looked a video called refine selection but some I do not understand and some of what he has in his tool bars I can not fine on my .. Sorry, but composites like these take quite a lot of time. I had some free time for the first one so I gladly shared the result in these fora. Yet, it'd take quite another 1-2 hours at least to finalise it for a better result.  There's a lot of manual drawing/blending involved.

So I hope you can understand that I can't/don't want to invest time into a similar free project. You could check YouTube for Photoshop tutorials about how to create composite images. Photoshop, simply because there are so many more great tutorials for it at YouTube than for Affinity Photo and the techniques are similar. Perspective, light and shadow, colour and contrast blending, masking etc. All basic stuff needed, yet in some cases very difficult to realise in a real project. Watching tutorials alongside with trying, trying and trying again will get you to better results eventually. It's a process, which might take some time.

Again I thank you .. I will check out Photoshop and  YouTube ..

one of the boys told me yesterday you might have a better picture and will get it to me late today , if it is a possible picture and I post it here could you see if you could do something with it and get it part of the main picture .

I realize there is a lot of time to do this and will understand if you can't take the time to do ..
