I'm trying to slice one line of text form another single word

Recommended Posts

  1. Duplicate the layer (Press CMD (⌘) + J on Mac) (Ctrl + J On Windows
  2. Apply a Threshold adjustment filter (98%) and with the Threshold filter still open click on Merge
  3. Make sure the duplicate layer (Top) is selected and use the Paintbrush (B) to paint over the small white flecks bottom right with black.
  4. Again, make sure the duplicate layer is selected and select the Flood select tool (W) and single click on the black area and then press Delete or backspace depending on your Operating System to remove the black area around the text.
  5. Press (Press CMD (⌘) + D on Mac) (Ctrl + D On Windows) to deselect the area
  6. Turn off the original layer to see result.
  7. It also helps to place a fill layer (Layer > New Fill Layer) behind the text and change the colour to see the result.

For a nice clean "cut out" try the following

1. Add a fill layer at bottom of stack, using Layer > New Fill Layer (mine is purple)

2. With the background layer selected, use the Flood Select Tool (set to a tolerance of 82% and the Contiguous setting ticked) click on the black part of the first letter "a" on the image (this should select all the black part of all that text)

3. Note that the dot on the letter "i" (in alecia) is not selected. So, with the Flood Select Tool still selected, change the Mode: to add (second top-left icon in the context tool bar) and simply click the black dot in the letter "i" to add it to the selection.

4. Now duplicate that selection using Layer > Duplicate Selection

5 Switch off original background layer in the Layers panel

6. Now add an Outline FX effect and set colour to white and change radius to 3.5px

If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.
