DegasBrush
Hi just had to prep some final art, expanding strokes to maintain integrity down the line and had a seriously destructive result from one instance (See photo) and another issue related is redundant points when using boolean operations ie when the software places two nodes/points exactly on top of one another.. very annoying and leading to unnecessary work. Also the same thing occurred on the opposite side/corner to this one. Stroke was set to outside. Anyone else experiencing this issue?? Cheers mvaari
Staff Sean P Posted March 22, 2021 Staff Share Posted March 22, 2021 Hi DegasBrush, Without an example file there isn't anything that we can pass over to be looked at. It would be helpful if you could attach one prior to being expanded. Many Expand Stroke cases are very file specific. However we do have a few issues reported so its fair to say it does have its issues.
DegasBrush
Okay here is a file with the same shape and similar stroke - same issue occurred - I have included the shape with the regular stroke before expanding. What do you think? AD_Strokeissue.afdesign
Staff Sean P Posted March 23, 2021 Staff Share Posted March 23, 2021 Thanks for the file - you actually have some two nodes nearly on top of each other there which is causing the confusion in Expand Stroke. Deleting one of these will allow you to expand the shape correctly. This is something we do have logged so I will get your comments passed on. mvaari
DegasBrush
@Sean P Yep.. superimposed/overlayed nodes will do it! It's very frustrating when trying to remove the node and have the whole integrity of the shape destroyed.. Thanks for taking the time.. I hope this is something they fix soon.. at least faster than the snapping bug in native Illustrator! BTW do you know if there are any plans to allow plug-ins to Designer??? Darner
Hi. I have the same issue with a simple "e" shape. Nodes might be close, but still strange challenge with expanding stroke. Funny thing is, when it is turned up side down to "a" shape, it works fine when expanding. It is basically a line with minimal nodes, rounded corners, then "bake appearance". Last one seems to add one node to many close to the main end node. The "e" shape is made from scratch based pen tool and grid accuracy.
