Brysky
While using the glyph browser I selected what I believe to be an Apple item, designer crashed. A window appeared stating that designer had unexpectedly crashed while reopening windows and asking if I wanted to try opening designer again, stating that if I choose not to reopen windows I may have to open and position the windows myself. The window included two buttons, Dont open & reopen, whichever of the buttons I clicked on designer will not reopen, it just displays the same window again.I sent a report to Apple but am not able to copy it for inclusion to you.I have tried opening designer from the dock but it just brings up the same window again, I have also tried rebooting the Macbook but Designer still will not open. Affinity Designer 1.9 Apple Macbook Pro 5,4 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53 ghz Can you please help Thank you. Quote
Staff Sean P Posted February 19, 2021 Staff Share Posted February 19, 2021 Hi Brysky, What version of macOS are you running? Can you hold down Ctrl whilst launching the app and then with the first 3 boxes ticked click 'Clear'. This will reset the studio - does that allow you to access the application again? If so can you reproduce the crash by repeating the same steps in the Glyph Browser? If so would you mind attaching the crash report for that is generated (you can access old ones by the Console as well) - unfortunately we don't get easy access to the ones sent to Apple. I've created a Dropbox link below that allows you to attach it to our internal Dropbox account if you would rather keep it off the forum (which is what I'm interpreting based on what you've said).https://www.dropbox.com/request/Y3sP5v3sQ3xHMuc7kCLn If you can reproduce the crash when going into the Glyph Browser are you able to get a screen recording demonstrating this please? You can also attach it to the dropbox link above if you would rather keep it off the forum. I'm wondering if its being caused by a specific font you have installed, and if the Panel remains open it could be causing it to crash every time the application is ran. Brysky
Thank you Sean P for your rapid and very usefull reply. I am using Mavericks. I tried using your sugestion and it worked, Designer appears to be working ok now. I am not sure what you mean by the crash report, the only thing that I saw was the window that kept apearing stating that Designer had quit (the one that I mentioned in my request for help), is this something else? I am not sure that I could reproduce the crash as I do not know which item I Selected I only know that it appeared to be an Apple item so I do not think it would be one I have installed, but it all happened very fast and was a bit of a shock. I have never used the Console and quite frankly the idea of doing so I find rather daunting. I am sorry but I do not know how to get a screen recording of what happened. Sorry I am not being much help, although I have been using my Mac for a long time I have never delved very deep into the inner workings of the software. I don't have a problem with any thing appearing on the forum, are there any instructions that I would be able to access that would help me to provide the information you require? To get a crash report you use the Console application. It is in your Utilities folder in your Applications folder. Start it up and choose User Reports. Now you have to hunt for the Affinity Designer Crash report in the list, Or you can use the finder to go to the folder ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/ and finding it there, it is named with the application name and the time of the crash. With a Finder Window open use the keyboard shortcut Command + Shift + G then paster the library logs.... into it. Quote Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 | Beta versions as they appear. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Brysky Glad to here you're back and running up! The Window that states Designer had quit normally contains a small arrow to expand and shows a lot of text which is what the crash reports contain and are helpful to our developers for identifying issues. Old Bruce's post should help you find the crash reports, as you say you find the Console daunting I would follow his suggestion of just using the folder in Finder to find them. With regards to screen recording this can be done inside the QuickTime application, you can find more on doing this on this topic from Apple:https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208721#quicktime However as it is no longer an issue and you it took you by surprise then I wouldn't worry about a screen recording for now, unless you do happen to stumble on it again and can remember and reproduce. Thanks for getting back to us though.
