Hi 

probably pretty basic thing to do but  I am a newbie ...

I have a photo of a flower and would like to change the background to completely black

could someone please tell me how to do this or is there a video out there I have not found yet??

Hi photofriend,

 

here’s a quick way to do it:

  • Use the selection brush to select the flower (A.)
  • Hit refine from the context toolbar and trace the edges, either all of them or just where it is required, with the refine selection brush (B.)
  • Choose “New layer with mask” and hit apply (C.)
  • Create a new pixel layer in the layers panel and place it underneath the masked layer that contains the flower (D.)
  • Select the pixel layer and choose Edit > Fill …
