Designer: what's the point of the pencil tool?

Recommended Posts

I can see there are already a few threads that ask what the difference between the Pencil tool and the Vector Brush tool is.

Well, I get it that the Vector Brush tool can do more than the Pencil tool can - namely, it can apply a brush stroke.

But it seems to me that the VB tool can do anything the Pencil tool can - in other words you can set the VB tool to create exactly the same thing you could create with the Pencil tool.

Therefore - why does the Pencil tool exist at all?

Ok - I realise what i say above is not quite true.

When I have the VB selected, and I look in the "stroke" settings, I see this:

And so I thought I could just select the "solid line style" instead of the "texture line style". But I can't. It's not greyed out to let me know it's not available with that tool - it just refuses to be selected.

So, I can't draw a simple solid line with the VB tool.

But I think my question remains - why do I have to switch to the pencil tool to do that? Why can't I just stay with the same tool, and select "solid line style"?

You can save Pressure Profiles in the Stroke menu when using the Pencil tool, don’t think you can do that with brushes
