Drawing will not show my paths ...

Recommended Posts

Hello all.

Something happened to my drawing.

All was working well.  I drew up all the feathers for my Heron wing.

Then something changed.  What did I do?!!!

I drew the Heron tail but I can't do anything with it.

It only shows up if selected and only in outline.

I did some test paths just below that and the same thing happened.

No fill or stroke.

There are two layers that I am working on, 'These will not show up' and 'Tail outline'.

I must have turned something off or on.  I have run out of things to try.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for listening ...

As I see it the layer "These will not show up." is nested inside the layer ",". Since both do not overlap you are not going to see anything. You can test yourself by moving the "hidden" layer up.

They do not show you because they are outside of the mask you have, turning that mask off will reveal the shapes.

If I understand, it was not your intention to set a mask, you can move the Curve layer which has been inadvertently set as a mask up and across to change it back to a nested curve layer, see image and arrow for direction of move, also notice the translucent bar and it's position, when you see that release the layer.

For future reference, if you see a small translucent vertical bar as you drag a layer onto another layer, this is an indication that the dragged layer will become a mask, I suspect this is what you did.

To avoid this don't drag a layer you want to nest under a layer or group onto the icon, drag it midway onto the layer as in the image above.

Thanks for the quick response.

Now, I have something else to think on and study ... Masks!

I had no idea what they were and how they worked!

That was indeed my problem.  Didn't know I did it and what I did to get there.

Getting the layers corrected fixed the issue.

I'm sure I will have a need for masks down the road, but not now!

Thanks again for the help.
