Clipboard paste crashes Photo on Mac OS 11

Recommended Posts

Hi @moonliiner,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble!

This isn't something I've seen being reported before, can you please confirm for me:

  • Does this happen with any CMD+C/CMD+V operation in Affinity?
  • If not, what specific image are you copying? (ie what is the file format, size etc of this image?)
  • What location is the image saved on your Mac? (if at all)
  • Does this happen when 'pasting' into any document, or does it only affect certain documents?
  • Do you have a clipboard manager of any kind installed?

Many thanks in advance :)

Images from internet, such as Google Images. (Select image from search page, go to large image at right, right-click "copy image," paste into AP document.) Size doesn't seem to matter. Pastes fine into Adobe, into an email, etc. Is there a security block of some kind?

My sincerest apologies for the delayed reply here @moonliner - I can confirm that we've had another report of this happening when copy and pasting within an Affinity document on the new M1 mac which could indicate a wider issue with clipboard implementation.

Therefore I have logged this with our development team for further testing and investigation. Hopefully this will show us the cause of this and we can release a fix as soon as possible.

Many thanks for your continued patience and understanding here!

Hi @Amakawa,

Welcome to the forums :)

If this is a browser specific issue then this doesn't sound quite the same as the issue being reported above - can you please post in the bugs section of our forums regarding the Opera issue you're having, being sure to include as much information about your setup and the bug as possible. If this issue can be replicated (ie the same results happen each time) please provide steps to repeat this in the app.

Many thanks in advance!

Yep, I can confirm I'm having the same issue. I use Snagit to capture images, they get pasted to the clipboard and when using command+v, or right click paste, the freezing beachball thing comes up.

I have tested it now in several screen capture apps and have replicated it amongst all of them. Some work for a little, as does Snagit, but then fail.

So the issue isn't locked to one app, it appears to be M1 related, or something the developers now need to account for.

Hi @mosesvii,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums :)

Thanks for the further information provided here, I too agree that the clipboard handling has changed across the board for the M1 macs - though I can't be certain of the reason for this.

I believe our developers are discussing this issue directly with Apple, so I will update the development log with the information you have provided now in the hopes this may prove fruitful in a resolution.

Many thanks once again!
